Hello, I'm quite new on this specified branches of the III Reich and never have seen comparing with the others so complicated classification of different ranks with paygroups.
I'd be very interesting to know (with old period pictures/original insignia and names) the correlative system of the horse-shoe shaped hand-emproidered insignia paygroups from when it was introduced, possibly before june 1938 with the encountered photos of Von Ribbentrop wearing new pattern sleeve insignia for his position. The high command and lower officials were distributed in 4 groups, with othere sub-groups in each group.
For example Group I had:
Group I:
a. Pay Group B3 a
b. Pay Group B3 b and 4
c. Pay Group B5 and 6
d. Pay Group B7-B9
Reich Ministers and Government Officials were just above of the 1st Group / a and wore different horse shoe insignia, in a beginning 4 horizontal stars for Reich Ministers and 3 horizontal stars and one star below for Government officials.
Some Minister like Ribbentrop created his own insignia etc..
So consecutively with the insignia.
Now there is controversy. The silver and gold insignia! Basing on readings and comments from much more understandings than myself the silver was used inside the Reich and Gold outside the Reich but there are some pictures of a Minister using Gold insignia inside the Reich.
2nd. Part would be the New Star System introduced definitely the 27th November 1942, but we can speak later about it
The information is mostly from Angolia's ¨In the Service of the Reich¨. Also used the Jill Halcomb and Ministries of the Reich book with some friends help.
Best, George
