    AH Silverware oppinions

Hello guys! I'm not sure if this is the best category to list this for review, so please move if appropriate.

I'm presented with a possible purchase of 5 pcs formal pattern and 2 pieces informal. Ive received some mixed reviews and was hoping I could get some other opinions.

These look fine to me. What's the story on them?

The story is they are up for sale from an estate. There is a receipts from Garde Du Corps Militaria with the pieces.

I agree: all Formal and Informal pieces appear to me to be original -- direct from AH's tables!

As an aside, aren't you Chip Gambino's son? I knew Chip back in the day when he had a shop in White Plains -- I enjoyed visiting that shop on most weekends and chatting with Chip there and at shows. His shop increased both my TR collections --
especially in daggers -- and also my numismatic collections. He was a wonderful collector and dealer; I miss him now.

Looks like my AH silverware. So far there are no negative reviews here on WAF. I'd rest assured.

                      real

BrianK is correct, I have owned a lot of German silverware, based on that, these look good. My silver serving platter by Wellner had the exact same engraved eagle and initials. Your AH and eagle being cast in relief makes it so much better. The silver proof-marks indicate it is real silver by international law as they would have been made and proofed then.

All signs point to original pieces, IMO they are real.

The Wellner platters should not have the same style Eagles as on the silverware. The platters had a distinct engraved eagle swastica and AH initials like shown in an earlier thread showing a textbook AH warming tray.

Yes Mr. James, I have the pleasure of carrying on my dads good name. I'm glad you enjoyed visiting the shop in white plains...I was around 12 when I used to spend countless hours putting ****ty circulated coins into holders with a staple gun. I still miss the pizza place on the corner across the street..best slice in the state!

I must agree with ErichS: Formal (State) and Informal Pattern AH silverware was produced exclusively by the firm of Peter Bruckmann & Söhne of Heilbronn in Württemberg; it was cast in .800 solid silver, with the monogram in relief on both patterns. Plates, platters, bowls and all sorts of other implements other than table utensils were made by the firm of Sächsische Metallwarenfabrik August Wellner Söhne AG, or the Saxon Metalware Factory of August Wellner’s Sons, Inc. – located in the village of Aue in Saxony. Wellner's work for Hitler came in different contents of silver and silver-plating, depending on the use of the item, and Wellner products bore Hitler's monogram produced by roll-engraving, not in relief.

                              Cheers,

                              Br. James
