Thanks for that clarification, Mike; much appreciated. The small and specialized goldsmithing, silversmithing and jewelry firm of FH Wandinger also provided the picture frames for Hitler in sterling -- .025 -- as well as other very specialized articles, and their Munich jewelry store was the source through which Martin Bormann ordered the AH-pattern silverware from Bruckmann that was purchased for the new Kehlstein Haus. I would imagine that other purchases of Formal and Informal Pattern AH silverware, and probably Wellner products engraved with the "AH" motif, as well, were ordered through the Wandinger retail shop, which used the name of "F.H. Wani."

"To me the AH cigar box is the "Holy Grail" of AH silver pieces."

Your point is well-taken, BrianK. It has always struck me as at least very odd that someone who was as anti-smoking as Adolf Hitler is recorded to have been, would have had silver cigar humidors custom-made for his houses! While it's true that much (if not all?) of the AH silverware we see was ordered as gifts for the Führer, and presumably not actually paid for out of Hitler's personal funds, we see photos of him sitting at tables at the Berghof and elsewhere with a silver cigar box bearing his monogram blatantly placed right there in front of him! While it's one thing to receive an item that you don't want as a gift, it seems quite another to actually place that unwanted item out on display for guests to see! Are we to assume that there were no cigars in those cigar humidors, that Hitler used them to store coasters or other non-smoking-related articles??

      Cheers,

No surprise that Germania International has a supply of those phony AH napkin rings.

Hey guys, I know this is an old thread but I thought I'd give it my best shot as a novice. From what I have read Hitler was keenly interested in ensuring he had cigars available for dignitaries and other important people who might be interested in smoking. I hope that's not too obvious of a statement.

This is an intriguing statement, Peter II; can you share with us the source(s) of your comment?

And, by the way: Welcome among us here on WAF!!
