SD as part of RSHA/Gestapo

Can someone help me understand the relationship of the SD to the rest of the SS, RSHA and the Gestapo. I understand the SD was an intelligence gathering unit of the Nazi Party, but was it also involved in gathering intelligence on behalf of the RSHA/Gestapo as well? Also, was the SD formally associated with the Einsatzgruppes or was it merely that SD members were sometimes assigned to those units just like order police? Thanks!

I have always found Anatomy of the SS State by Buchheim, Kausznick and Broszat to be an excellent explanation of the interrelationship of the SD in the SS.
