    Silver shot glasses

Hi guys, I recently bought a group of 4 shot glasses in silver (all marked with "800").
3 of them are hand engraved with the national eagle a date:
    - 6.6.37
    - 6.6.38
    - 6.6.39

and an inscription: H.-Abn. I(J)nspitz. West.

Can someone help me out in find some info about them?

        Pre D-Day rehearsals?
Could be someone's birthday, a contest (although not likely it would be on the same day each year), anniversary, ?

Thanks Erich for you thoughts about this set.
IMO the key could be in the inscription.

I wonder what connection the larger silver "shot glass" has to the three smaller ones? The larger one appears to bear a crest honoring the "Alter Kämpfer" -- the Old Fighters of the NSDAP's early days, while the three small shot cups are dated much later...?

I wish the bartender would use that larger cup as a "shot glass" when I'm in the bar!!

                Cheers,

                Br. James

Hi James, I don't know the relation between them, I picked up the group as it came.

I can only say that the plaque on the big glass is like a Danzig "Alter Kampfer" badge, but for sure it is not the rare badge. It is a cast plaque soldered on it.

Who made it and when it is impossible to say. I was more interested by the 3 little shot glasses due to the dates and the unit engraved on them.

                    Best regards,

How to you make "Inspektion" from "Inspiz.", and why would there be a "." after "West" if it is not an abbreviation ?

                      I have doubts.

Is everyone convinced they are period engraved?

According to Langenscheidts, Inspiz(ient) can be a director, as in Inspizient der Kampftruppe= director of combat troops. It's termed a military term with this translation.
Günther Lützow was the 'Inspizient West beim General der Jagdflieger in Berlin', for example.
