SA Marble and metal paper weight featuring kepi and flag-?

    Greetings all!
As my area of collecting is primarily Luftwaffe and you cannot have everything, I am selling off almost all of my SA, Political and remains of my Heer collections. What do the members think of this SA/Political paperweight? It appears to be made out of marble or a like substance (Alabaster?), weighs in at 788g (or 1 lb 11oz). So fairly heavy for an item only 130mm long and 75mm wide at the base. Flag measures 180mm. Metal looks to have a thin nickel or similar plating. This is has worn off in some places. The edging at some stage, has had cello-tape put on some of it. THAT IS WHAT YOU CAN SEE IN SOME IMAGES. Not the plating! Green felt on paper lines the underside of the base (UV negative). It shows some age and came from an old time collector. Any comments or advice is welcome!
    Cheers,
    David R

        Original piece, IMO.

I like this piece. The craftsmanship and details look good.

I like it, too...but I wonder why the designer/sculptor didn't choose to show the Sturm Flag patch or the correct SA Pole Top when this piece was originally conceived? The kepi represented here is from the early 1930s, if not even later...?

                  James,
I too had wondered about the Sturm corner patch and only could come up with the idea that it was made as more of a generic piece.

                    Thanks, Sydney,

I'm sure that's a possibility, though it would have been possible for the designer/sculptor to show the presence of a corner patch without indicating any particular Sturm number on the patch. And the pole top shown on this sculpture does not resemble either the SA or the SS topper design. My suspicion is that the job of designing this piece was given out to an artist who did not belong to either the SA or the SS, and he was simply told to include a standard kepi and a swastika flag in the design...and without any further instructions, this is the way it turned out.

Unfortunately, this sort of vague instruction is still present in such work today, and the results are the results.

                    Cheers, my friend,

                      A nice piece indeed.
