A friend's Nuremberg desk eagle to verify.

Hello everyone, I'm posting for a friend that had this eagle for a while now. He paid lots of money for it and shipping company broke it in three pieces. He repaired it but I was concerned about the marble base. Unusual design and color. Also we would like to know if it's real. Thanks.image.jpeg

          Hi Panzer,

Welcome among us! Can you enhance the description of this piece by adding the dimensions of the eagle, at least a guess as to what the eagle is made of, and whether there are any markings on the reverse of the eagle's base? Also, where was the piece broken -- was the marble base shattered or was the eagle broken into pieces, or perhaps both?

          Thanks,

          Br. James

The marble base doesn't conform to textbook examples. For the eagle, closeup and crisp shots are necessary to ascertain the piece if its legit.

I AGREE 100% WITH BR ...more pics are needed ..bottom of base ,closeups of eagle,m marks, etc ..."nuremberg"eagles have become a minefield in ww2 collecting ...one needs pics to show detail, composision of material(bronze, white metal,etc)... EC

Thank you, I don't know the exact dimensions but I will get them. There is no marks on it. It had two break points, big chunk of marble from rear left corner was broken, you can tell from the provided pictures. The other break was under the wreath beneath the swas. I will also ask him to guess the material. Thank you for now, hope this helps.

Hi guys, im sorry for the low quality pictures but these are what he gave me. I remember one time he said its about 10inches tall and made out of pewter? Does that make any sense? Thanks again.

If its pewter, its bad... Base is postwar and not proper nor is the bottom replacement material. Pretty wild place for a break, that means there was either already a break innthat spot, or the piece was mispacked and shipped by a moron and the weight of the base played against the swastika area, never saw that before so would not be in a hurry to buy there again.

I dont think its pewter, but the color puts me off but heat has been applied and forum photos are getting difficult with these or at least some styles of them. He wont be able to guess the metal and aside from taking the piece off the base no one can call it 100% but it looks o.k based on what is shown currently. Miht as well, forget the dimensions as well and no one going anywhere with those either.

I always forget Mrec27777 the super genius with his x-ray vision and ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Dont feel bad though as he called a blatant one looker real bird not too long ago as bad, not sure if he was that clueless or if he won it.

Yes it was packed very bad. I will probably get more pictures and perhaps measurements by tomorrow. How sure you are about the marble to be pot war? If 100% I will tell him to unscrew it. What is the proper material of the casting? Are there variants and different makers? Thanks again.

Most all of the statues of this type and plaques etc. were standardized catalog pieces and ran through distribution channels into store windows and propaganda outlets. So there is a standard way in which they were done with some variables, but for the most part their the same. You can have a deviation but some things remain the same and you can spot post war by subtle differences in materials, the lack of a beveled edge, a rounded edge, etc. the trick is knowing which one to apply where and what a righteous deviation would or should look like. In this case its just wrong for a few reasons and someone had it done I would guess to their tastes.

The birds themselves are generally white metal but this one is shot in poor lighting so its hard to get a look at the finish. Best to shoot them in natural light. If he does decide to pull it apart the bolt will be extended and the best way is to cut along the mount hole through the felt, its added anyway. Depending where it came from they might confirm the post war base with a non metric bolt. The underside of the bird can be several ways and its best to avoid posting that as their working hard to get these right and to be honest there are too many dorks taking things apart on forums and in the process showing too much or even ruining an item. Its safe with this as it should be one screw and one nut. If he does it let me know and messqge me and ill give you a way to fire the photo.

Sorry to see it get damaged and remember seeing the base but do not remember where I saw it.
