I have showcased this particular piece here on the Political forum before, but figured it would be fun to take another look—84 years to the day it was given to Hitler on his birthday in 1932.

It is a hand painted bowl by the Munich artist Sofie Stork, who painted and made many of the fixtures and furnishings in the Berghof and Eva Braun's villa in Munich—including at least one china tea set, lampshades and Kachelofen tiles.

She was a member of the Berghof's inner circle and was very close to Hitler. He even loaned her a vast sum of money, for which she was arrested for after the war.

The front of the bowl shows Haus Wachenfeld, just before it was transformed into the Berghof from around 1933 onwards.

The inscription on the reverse reads "In gratitude for many happy hours spent in your home" and the small stork below bears a swastika flag in its beak...nice touch! Being such an early piece, I believe this was the first gift she gave to Hitler, and it is also the only Stork item I've come across with a personal inscription.

Anyway, I hope the Berghof enthusiasts among you will enjoy seeing this one more time.

Very interesting indeed, Chris -- many thanks for sharing this again! I was not aware that Sophie Stork was a 'regular' at Haus Wachenfeld as early as April of 1932; I thought she came on the scene a few years later, in the mid-1930s. And the representation of Haus Wachenfeld itself is also revealing, considering the early date of April 1932. There apparently has been some degree of uncertainty as to the date of the first enlargement of this property -- the addition of a full second floor, in particular -- which some early architectural plans suggest was finished in 1933, just prior to the beginning of the major work that resulted in the creation of the Berghof. This lovely bowl casts new light on many aspects of the Wachenfeld/Berghof history. Many thanks again for sharing this!
