        Could be but came back from WWII and was given to son who has had it along with arm bands and other badges since 1946.

            Thanks for the information. It is quite small 4 1/4 by 2 1/2 inches. Would be small note paper but possible.

              I've never seen another like it...but if it came back from WWII with a returning GI, it may have been some sort of a political supporter piece. The eagle and swastika die stamping is of an early version of the NSDAP symbol.

              An attractive and unusual piece, all right! Cheers,

                Thanks for the info. It is very unusual and shows quite a bit of wear so someone carried this thing around for a long time. The more I think about the item it seems most likely that it is some kind of note booklet holder, but not positive.
