it has been painted white. paint looks old and has patina..i would own this...not sure why maybe winter or special event..tom

White helmets are not mentioned in official documentation, anyway thy were not for the olympic games, as the NSKK units did wear there black helmets.

The paint does look old and period but it also looks like the eagle was painted white at the same time. I could see the helmet painted that way for some special parade duty or event but I would also question why the eagle was painted. From the quality of paint on the helmet one would have to believe that the eagle was intentionally painted white. It looks to me like whoever removed the paint from the eagle later on for some reason did a half ass job of it.

old leather helmets was painted white postwar for sport duty like bobsleigh.
The leather of the neck on your helmet was cut.
