    SA Shoulder Strap

I picked this piece up 12+ years ago. I posted it somewhere, must have been a different forum. Can anyone refresh my memory on which district the maroon was for? I have been keeping half an eye out over the years for a pair of same colored tabs, but they seem to be a bit less common than other colors.

Also, can anyone narrow the era down? Pre-war perhaps? The permanent sewn button I thought was interesting.

Very nice board. Dunkelweinrot with silver button is for Gruppe Westfalen

Thank you! Was this a smaller group? Even searching the forum I can't seem to find many tabs of this color.

Can anyone tell me the approximate narrowed era? I would like to find a pair of tabs to go with and would like the era to match.

I found this page that serves as a good identification of colors to groups, but it has the board as a Marine SA pre-1940. I thought this style of board was universal for a period?

The above shoulder strap was for SA Group Westfalen from 1933 to 1939, when the insignia was changed for the whole SA.
On the GD page, the strap shown as Marine SA has either black/white or navy blue/white cords on a navy blue underlay.

Thanks for the info. Was there any distinct difference between wartime collar tabs and pre-war collar tabs I should be on the lookout for while searching for a pair to match up?

Yes, actually. The prewar tabs would have the Sturm/Standarte numbers chain stitched in white on Burgundy wool and would, for this rank, not be piped.

                Shoulderboard

Your shoulderboard's Gruppe identification is based on the color of the wool base. Most SA Gruppes' shoulderboards had black/white piping on the shoulderboard and matching black/white piping around the collar during this era. SOME SA Gruppes had different-colored piping than black/white, though. These colors usually had some historical significance of that area. For example, SA Gruppe Franken had blue/white piping. Collar tabs that have either white or yellow rayon piping would be too late to match your shoulderboard. In the event you're assembling a shirt or tunic, remember that ANY SA uniform with a shoulderboard like yours would require matching black.white collar piping - the hardest part to find. Any more questions - we're only too glad to help.

Thank you kindly, gents. Not trying to reassemble a uniform, rather a small riker display of the insignia one would have worn, only choosing this particular group because I already have the board and it's a rather nice one

Wouldn't mind some of the piping for the display, but not essential to the idea in my head.

I'll keep my eye out for some unpiped tabs to go with this. Thanks for the education, a long time ago I had started to get interested in SA items and then my interests, fickle as they are, bounced around.
