    SA Collar Tab Research

Ive recently started to get very interested in SA tabs and want to know of the best material to research these items.

I know there is the yearly NSDAP Organisationsbuch and "A collectors guide to SA insignia" by David Fuller but was wondering is other material or books available to learn from.

    Thanks in advance.

The book "The SA 1921-45 Hitler's Stormtroopers" is the only book currently in print and is reasonably priced. It's basic and there are some mistakes but overall it's a good reference. The Angolia book 'Cloth Insignia of the NSDAP and SA' is better but has been out of print for many years.
I've been working on a book about SA uniforms, insignia, etc. for years but I'm not sure it will make it to print.

      Books

Jill Holcomb has a book also - "The SA - A Historical Perspective" it's a nice book too - IMO, not quite as good as Angolia's book, but a LOT of excellent photos. Probably out of print too. Gun shows usually have lots of books.
REGARDLESS - If you ever have ANY questions about SA, just post on forum!!
The Fuller book has lots of nice color photos of collar tabs, shoulderboards, etc., but the colors seem off for some reason. IMO, Angolia's book is one of the best!!

Thanks for the replies. I now have some new purchases to make

And Erich I hope that one day you'll be able to get your book out on print. Up to date material would be nice!

It must be over fifteen years ago (or even more) when I copied a lot of information about SA collar patches for an American, who intended to do a new book just about them. He intended to do this with some other guys from the US, but until today nothing has happened. If they just had used my copied material, the book could have been available already for at least ten years. I have never heard from the US person again in the last ten years.
I know a Dutch person has also these plans for many years. I do not know what the problems are (disagreement between the guys, no writing skills or whatever), but remind your never can make a book with all included. There always will be material missing or lacking. Let's cross fingers, who knows a miracle happens!

For Sale items are permitted in the E-Stand area only. To list there, you need to be an Associate Member, which costs only a pittance ($25.00) per year.

No, it was only 10 years ago! I have been researching and trying to solve some mysteries (e.g. insignia in photos that doesn't show up anywhere in regulations). My intent was to put together a 2 volume set that covers not only collar and other insignia (which are interesting but only to a certain extent for me), but also uniforms, flags, equipment, paperwork, music related items, artworks, Sturm Cigarette items, the early JG Horst Wessel, etc. pertaining to the SA. I've got a lot of pieces in my collection, a lot of photos, the SAVB, insignia books and pamphlets from the period, partial RZM records, period uniform books, period magazines and newspapers--my problem is that I don't have documentation for some things, don't have examples of other items, don't have all of the details in some cases, and I'm still looking for more. I know that the line has to be drawn at some point and I'll never find everything I'm seeking, but it's hard to stop the search. The other U.S. collectors that were collaborating have gone in different directions so it's more or less a solo endeavor at this point. Writing is not a problem, luckily!
