IMO it's original, however I think it's been restored. The backing cloth looks replaced. The aluminum colored paint appears to have been retouched, or possibly redone, but it's difficult to say without examining it in hand. The painted finish on these is fairly fragile, and with the amount of wear the eagle displays and the dents to the gorget plate itself, I would think the paint would be in more damaged condition. The paint along the bottom lip shows a rougher edge than I've seen on these.
