      Hi GAPO1,

      Welcome among us! You've shown us is the award edition of a 2nd Issue SA Sport Badge, Bronze Grade (February 1935 to December 1938): "Eigentum D.S.A. Sportabzeichen Hauptstelle" (Property of the SA Sport Badge Main Office). A nice, collectible piece.

      Cheers, and again, welcome!

          There's not a lot in print regarding the background of this badge of achievement. Wikipedia has a bit, and here is what I can say about the SA Sport Badge and its wartime successor, the SA Military Defense Badge:

          The SA Sport Badge (SA-Sportabzeichen) was originally instituted by SA-Stabschef Ernst Röhm on November 28, 1933 for SA members – including the NSKK and SS – in three grades: Gold, Silver and Bronze, during two periods of issue. The first awards of this badge began in March of 1934, but by the end of that year it became clear that the huge volume of record-keeping this popular badge necessitated required that an office of the SA be dedicated specifically to this badge, hence the reverse inscription change on February 15, 1935 under Röhm’s successor, SA-Stabschef Viktor Lutze. (Organizationally, SA-Obergruppenführer Max Jüttner was the Chief of the Headquarters of the SA High Command – the Obersten SA Führung – under whom served SA-Brigadeführer Rudolf Michaelis, head of the Department of Physical Exercises, the office that issued the SA Sport Badge.) This structure continued until Hitler changed the designation of this badge to the SA Military Defense Badge (SA-Wehrabzeichen) on January 19, 1939 and the reverse inscription indicates yet another structure, also maintained by SA-Stabschef Lutze. By the end of 1943, over 2.5 million of these badges had been awarded. The three badge issues are identical on the obverse and are only differentiated by the inscription on the reverse:
          1st Issue (March 1934 to January 1935): "Eigentum D. Chefs D. Ausbildungswesens" (Property of the Chief of Training Staff);
          2nd Issue (February 1935 to December 1938): "Eigentum D.S.A. Sportabzeichen Hauptstelle" (Property of the SA Sport Badge Main Office);
          3rd Issue (January 1939 to the end of the war): "Eigentum D. Obersten SA Führung" (Property of the SA Supreme Command).
          It was originally intended that all officially issued badges were to be numbered on the reverse – the number on the award document being keyed to the number on the badge – but this practice was discontinued with the 3rd Issue badge, issued during the war. Badge holders of any Issue could purchase additional copies of their badge grade at their own expense; such badges were also not numbered.

          Hope this is helpful to you.

              I would say that any "dollar amount" would be based upon how much you paid for this piece, together with what similar pieces are being offered for from dealers.

                I guess that was my question: What is the going price at the retail level....

                  You'll need to do a bit of research on the web!

                    I already tried that, but Ebay does not allow the sale of Nazi items so there is nothing to compare it to. I must say that I have never before encountered reluctance to estimate an item's value on a collector's forum. Most forums actually have a sub-forum "What's it Worth" or something to that effect.

                    Thanks anyway.

                      By "research," what I'm referring to is visiting a number of different militaria dealers' websites and comparing the prices they have posted for a similar item.
