Hi guys,
Would like to get your opinions one of my latest additions, a 10 year LS cross by Schmidhaussler (marked 8 on the ribbon ring). Its a light-weight example made of Cupal, and you can see the thin copper layer buckling in a few spots along the edges which is interesting to study up close. I really like the two-tone finish on this one, giving it an artifical antique look to it.
I was a bit surprised at the lack of detail on this cross, especially when compared with my other Cupal examples. Typically the Cupal base metal was easy to form and crosses made with it are very finely detailed, especially the beading. Not so with this example, the beading is very weak, and almost smooth in places. Here it is sitting next to a Deschler cross, the difference is quite striking.
So is this just a trait of Schmidhaussler crosses? I haven't found too many to compare it to, but the few I did find seem to have the same poor beading detailing. Other than that, I think it is a great-looking cross with a very nicely detailed eagle design. Most Cupal 10s have the same eagle design, so its nice to find a different maker using a different eagle design.
Thanks guys.
Tom
