Opinions on Reichsadler bust

Hi, I would please you to tell me your opinion on this eagle.
I guess I had the same one on a pillar, which was unquestional. What do you think about this?

Quite a handsome piece, though I can't think of a reason why the majority of the reverse should appear as unfinished as it does...except for the bird's fine head and the wreath??

That is an impressive looking piece. One of the very few where the design and display value of the piece rivals its historical one.

Hi Br. James,
I'm thinking that it is perhaps because the bird is meant to be looked at from the front. A lot of 'HB' eagles had a flat, unfinished looking back to them, even one of their Nuremberg eagle variants and one of their NSRL eagles, I guess if the eagle is on a shelf then it is not much point doing a lot with the back of the bird that is never seen....

Thanks, Michael. It just seems so odd to me that someone would go to the trouble of adding certain details to the reverse of a sculpture -- like to the head and the wreath -- that is not intended to be seen from that side! I've seen the example of the Nuremberg Eagle that you illustrate, too, and have wondered the same thing there!
