    Cap Eagles review

    Hi All, just want to confirm these before going to the Estand.
    Both are marked, the more silver one is M1/16 up by the prong, the gold one is RZM M1/12?, with all the dirt and wear, it looks like 1/12.

          I've never seen an SA eagle like the top one. I'd be interested what others say, to confirm such an eagle existed.

            If you are talking about the 2nd (right facing) bird its original but has nothing to do with the SA or the NSDAP for that matter IMO: wings are shorter and wing crescent feathers droop downwards instead of being straight. Exists in gold and silver (in a few sizes) and was introduced in 1936 (?) as a general government admin style eagle (Reichpost, Forstbeamt, Zollbeamt etc.). However some have been found on period party headwear just like you sometime see Heer or M39 SA style cap eagles on period SS pictures.

            It should be noted there is also a right facing version of the NSDAP eagle introduced at about the same time but the proportions & design are different and it was very short lived because a left facing version of the NSDAP bird replaced it a year later in 1937. Just a theory but I suspect the party boys didnt like the idea of being associated to the "pencil pushers" and wanted to look like the "movers & shakers" (Heer/KM/Luft/SS all had left facing eagles...) Consequently true NSDAP style M36 eagles are not so common and these admin type birds are often incorrectly dubbed as "M36 NSDAP eagles" but they are not IMO

            First attached pict shows a few variants of the same M36 Admin type eagle and the second pict shows M34, M36, M37 & M39 party style birds

                Sorry, got the wrong " top one"...

                The one with the prongs is a perfectly correct late specimen with integrated prongs to minimize labour/costs. You can find other late war types (Heer, Beamte and other stuff like collar tab panzer skulls etc) with the same kind of set up. Judging from the pictures I would say its a nice late Assmann (M1/17) NSDAP leader eagle with most of the gold finish gone
