    Skull and Crossbones.

Something that came with some German WW2 gear over the weekend, not quite sure what it would have been used for, appears to have broken off under the chin, nice detail and what looks like an old designed skull. Before i place this one in the Oddity tray i thought id post here in case some member has some insight. All comments are welcome

What are the dimensions of this piece?

I was thinking that it could be a Hussar busby plate, but I don't see any way of mounting it.

The skull is down at the shop at the mo, from what i remember it stands around 3 to 4 inches. As for mounting, it does look as if it was broken off under the chin .

Thanks for taking the time to reply, Masonic, yep looks as if it might well be, also seems to have an Italian feel going for it, just one of those oddities .

not italian; agree with Bob Masonic skull.
"six italians, dressed in rather unusual diving suits and equipped with materials of laughably little cost have swung the military balance of power in the Mediterranean in favour of the Axis".
