Because if they did not, someone has misappropriated their trademark.
Good point, stonemint! I don't know if the current owner contacted them. But I will ask him and let you know. Thanks for this advice

      Hochland Kepi

To make sure we're on the same page....the German forum is saying the enlisted SA Hochland kepi with light blue interior is real
      A. Who removes the eagle and chinstrap from an original kepi when they don't have to?
      B. Erich B. already pointed out the discrepancies - AGREE - the cotton khaki fabric would be laughable if it weren't so pathetic.
      C. Ever see a REAL chinstrap bend that easily?
      D. The interior fabric would be scary if it were a golden brown, because it looks pretty real.
      E. I would expect to see an oilcloth crown in a cap like this.

Thank you, sgstandard, for your valuable contribution to this topic! I truly appreciate your willingness to share your high competence in this field with us.

But such statements are unnecessary and bear the risk to drag this discussion down to a level, which we all should avoid

I'm fully aware of similar statements from single German collectors in the German forum about American collectors bashing this cap as these German collectors think it's an original cap. I don't like these "German statements" about American collectors either! Life is too short to fight such destructive verbal exchange without a winner at the end

I think we should accept that each of us is allowed to have an opinion and it is up to each of us to decide which opinion we will follow.

I just want to encourage to continue the constructive discussion, as I for myself can learn a lot out if it. And it would be sad, if a constructive discussion turns into a destructive exchange of political statements, which doesn't help the collecting community.

          Hi,
I have also been reading both forums and are a member of both for a long time!
I fully agree with IVBAUST that this statemant is leading to the wrong direction.
Lets stay pros and collector friends.

I'm sure you don't mind that I've taken out the 'impolite' statement to keep us on the high ground here. I know we're (members of both forums) all interested in this research and, as noted in the 2 last posts, a spirit of camaraderie will better help us all to learn more.

              Caps

Point well taken - I was just giving them "the business". As prefaced in my original comment, no insult intended. However, when supposed "experts" in the field lead their members astray by authenticating the unauthenticatable, it suggests they're either incompetent, or they have an agenda or an allegiance to the item. Some items are "difficult". That kepi is certainly not one of them.
              They should be embarrassed.

Agree--this cap has features in common with the faked examples.

As I stated, "Hut Mayer" exists today, but every example I have seen with their name has been a high-end fake. SS, SA, WH, you name it.....
