Von Ribbentropp's silver flatware

Got a email from a lady who offered these pieces to me and said that they are from Minister Von Ribbontropp's home. I have not had the opportunity to talk with her or see the items in person yet and plan on doing so this weekend. This is not the style of flatware that I have seen on various web site from Von Ribbontroop estate, the style I have seen looks more ornate and appears to have a clam shell motif under the eagle and swazzy. I see more of Hitler, Gorring and Braun flatware and to me they seem fairly priced.

Is there any value to these pieces and if so what is it?

The only silverware that is collectable these days and commanding the highest prices are the formal and informal AH pieces. That said, the Himmler pieces and others are collectable if you aren't concerned about resale.

I had these at one time, this must be the scalloped pattern your talking about, the other known is the eagle over the globe pattern, I believe.

Yes, That's the pattern I was talking about. I have only seen the two patterns for Von Ribbontrop flatware and was curious as to any real collectible market to what I pictured. I have decided to pass on the set as the owner is looking for 1400 for all. I see no room for quick resale or to make any profit.

In his book, "The Encyclopedia of Third Reich Tableware," author and collector James A. Yannes shows us examples of three different patterns of silverware attributed to Von Ribbentrop, and none of those patterns match the pieces you are considering. Of course, this is not to say that the pieces you're considering are not genuine; of course, Von Ribbentrop may have had other sets of silver tableware at his several residences. The key would be whatever provenance the lady who owns these pieces has to stand behind them. But since none of the known patterns agree with these pieces, the price should be low...if the provenance is acceptable and convincing.
