While Ludwig-K brings up a very good point regarding proportion in his note, I can't help liking this piece very much. it is obviously the work of a skilled artist and craftsman, IMHO. Proportion is indeed important when analyzing TR symbols; the NSDAP cared very much about how things looked and their proportional sizes. But this appears to be a handmade piece and as such, it would not be held to the same standards as would machine-made articles...even pieces representing the Party itself. An eagle like this might have been created for a specific spot in a building's lobby or for a particular event, and the size of it may be a reflection on the space it was destined to occupy.

I wonder whether there is any provenance...any history of ownership...for this piece? That would be most helpful in establishing when this eagle 'came to life.' But as I indicated above, it's quite an elegant rendering!

And as to your last comment: if this is a handmade piece, then you will not find any other example to compare with it, and that uniqueness contributes to it's value.

I agree that the eagle proportion seems not as usually seen, but you can find the same thing on RLB eagle for example. Art deco design with small wings.

For the price perhaps your collector sensibility can help me. I would say around 800/1200$?

Very hard to ascertain whether this eagle or wood carved pieces are good or not without substantial period photos or provenance.

Hi, I am no authority in such pieces. These are entirely my own opinons. The closest thing that comes to my mind is the landwacht police eagle insignia with the 2nd feather's tip being longer than the 1st's.

The more I looked at it the more I don't like what I see. For example the difference in the left/right shoulders and the top part of the wings that extends immediately from the shoulders. I thought they are too small. The lack of holes for mounting fixtures just begged the question why was this piece created for?

This also cannot be compared to a RLB eagle because your example has fully spread wings.

The best I can imagine is that this is a post war hand crafted piece created for sale to souvenir hunters with removable wings for easy shipment home.

For that price you suggested. I think a metal railway eagle will be more ideal. I don't see myself paying more that 150-200 euros for it. Its value is in in size and as an hand carved piece, it is worth zero as a historical piece until proven otherwise.
