    Hello all,

Does anyone else have a plaque like this? Measures just over 3" wide.

and the tinnie that obviously goes with the Röhn-Segelflug-Wettbewerb event, though the plaque is 1939 dated, whereas the tinnie is 1938 dated.

Those awards are not worth much having the obverse ground off .

did they even ever have another side? I was told these were symbols for a wooden plaque, does that sound right?

I would say you are right , these type plaques with the holes for nails/pins, would be fitted to a wood frame/background or possibly even to a piece of marble - i.e. therefore there would be no need for anything on the reverse,

they are original non-portable awards that have been ground down ; obviously to be placed on something ... you can tell by the nail holes being crudely done and the grinding marks that these were done by an individual and not by an award maker
IMHO it was a waste of some nice awards. I do own a cased example of one and it measures the same as the ones in your photos.

wouldn't this have been period done, and wouldn't that support the theory of being from a plaque?

William, yes it could have been period done but they are non-portable awards that have been ground down which makes them not very desireable.
