    Sa reference book?

Wondering if someone is writing an updated book on the early days? Group establishment, maps on who controlled what? color photos and so on. ...what we currently have is outdated....I still value my reading material but I wish we had more: (

I agree but we SA collectors are few and far between and i suppose the cost of producing a book for so few would be considered

For years some persons are planning a book, mainly dedicated to SA collar patches. Many years ago I provided some Americans with lots of information about that particular subject, but until now there is no result. I severely doubt they are capable to write a book properly. I do not have plans for it, as I do not have enough sufficient photographs of actual collar-patches and the use of these most interesting subjects. I am not interested in a duo writing task!

I also know Laurens has this plan for years. If somebody could write a new and most interesting book about that subject, it would be him, as he has much unknown information and many photographs. Maybe he does not have enough time to write such a book, as he does have a regular job. One needs time, not to say - for a good book - at least two years or so. Maybe I can give him a hand with difficult situations. Maybe Laurens will give a reaction!

Further: what publisher would be interested? Numbers/copies are not that high these days, so there must be at least one, to do such a job! A book about all what has to do with the SA surely will be out of the question, as the book would get too many pages and the costs of shipping would be too much for collectors. That is often a problem and I know this, due to some heavy books, I wrote! A book in two volumes? That hardly will interest a publisher!

I've been working on a book on SA uniforms, equipment, specialty units, insignia, flags, and miscellany for many years. To be more accurate, it would have to be a multi volume set as there is so much information, and were so many changes as the SA grew and evolved, that it would be impossible to fit it into one volume while doing the topics justice. Originally several members here were involved in the work but now it's a solo project. Several publishers have expressed interest in putting out the book(s), depending, of course, on the finished manuscript(s).
I'm hopeful at least one volume will be completed within the next year or two!

give a man enough grammar rope and he will inevitably hang himself to it.

as for those americans .. what do you expect from a bunch of ignorant capitalist lackeys and scruffy imperialist dogs?

Great to know that you've got this massive project in hand, Erich! I certainly agree that our hobby cries out for a definitive reference work on this important (and massive) subject.

Put me down for a copy of each volume as they come off the press! Best of luck,

            Br. James

Erich, I did not know you were working on one. Had heard other names, many years ago! They must be the persons from the actual start.

Good luck. Great to hear about this. Hope one day to see a good SA reference being released. I am especially waiting for new information about the SA special units and functions. And yes it takes years and years to get a good job done.
