What is the rank of this SA?

This is not an SA Brownshirt, it is an NSDAP Orts Brownshirt, Sean

I agree. If you have a copy of Jeff Clark's "Uniforms of the NSDAP" at hand...and I encourage everyone to have a copy...on page 13 you will find that this is the collar tab for the PL Zellenwart rank of an Ortsgruppen, according to the 1934 uniform standards. The same tab also appears for the rank of PL Orts Hauptstellenleiter according to the 1936 uniform code, but by that time the Traditions Brown Shirt was no longer standard.

          Tabs

It is 2nd pattern, 1934-1936 era "Operational" (as opposed to "Administrative") tab, Ortsgruppe level, with the rank of Zellenleiter (Cell Leader). The same exact tab (3rd pattern) was worn during the 1936-1938 era - still "Operational" function, still Ortsgruppe level, the rank now called "Hauptstellenleiter" (Main Department Leader). There are 4 different Political Leader patterns.
