    Von Ribentropp silverware

Or maybe i should say, informal silverware, there silver plated, no hallmarks.
I use to own these, but picked up another like it, a butter or fish knife, same design, your thoughts?
    Maybe the paperwork is incorrect?
    Thanks for any info.
    Regards,
    Gary

      Hi Gary,

If you have a copy of "The Encyclopedia of Third Reich Tableware" at hand (by James A. Yannes, Trafford Publishing, 2013), then turn to page 112-113 where you will find identical examples of this elegant flatware pattern. Jim Yannes tells us that this pattern was from Ribbentrop's lakeside estate, Schloss Fuschl, in Salzburg, Austria, where Ribbentrop called 'home' when he was summoned to the Berghof. (This location was an easy drive up to the Obersalzberg Administration Compound, yet it was out of the immediate sight of the likes of Martin Bormann!) While the examples shown by Yannes have no hallmarks or maker's marks, they do bear the stamp "800" which indicates solid silver pieces.

      Again, quite an elegant service!

Another very elegant piece! Can you show us the reverse of the handle; is there an "800" stamped there?

Is your photo in note #10 the obverse or the reverse of this fish/master butter knife? I don't understand why some pieces of this pattern would carry the 800 silver content mark and others not...??

Thanks for your response. IMO, silver-plated pieces would also be marked with the maker's logo/name and the plating code for the silver content. Even stainless pieces would normally carry the logo/name of the maker. These pieces are of a unique and probably custom-made design, so I don't know why some pieces would carry at least the silver content (800) as noted in Jim Yannes' description and your pieces do not.

Not sure what to make of the metal, silverplate?, i dunno?
Post 3 or 4 according to the paper, says hallmarks, makers unknown, if it's true or not.
I doubt if the hallmark wore off?
Custom?, possible, could be silver, wait till it tarnishes?
How does one tell what type of metal?
                            Regards,
                            Gary

                              Hello,

just got Gary's butter knife and under magnification the eagle insignia appears separately made (die struck ?) and then nicely joined to the knife by soldering.

By Gary's pic (#1) pieces at left and right show the same feature, while piece in the middle show the eagle not separately made.

That could confirm they belong to a custom made serie not originated by the former Ribbentrop's provider ?
