    question regarding the nsdap gorget

hi all, just a quick couple of question.
I recently acquired 2 nsdap gorgets. one is a m1/102 with matching 102 chain the other is m1/128 with m1/17 chain.
my questions are, was it common to have mismatched parts/chain?
and why were the chains different length's? (23 links and 31 links) did this depend on maker or fitted to the individual wearer?
    thanks all in advance...

Very difficult to arrive at an opinion without photos of the gorgets. I believe it was usual for the RZM license numbers to match between the gorget clip and the chain. And, while the standard PL Gorget had 31 links, I suppose it was possible for links to be removed in order for the gorget to be worn properly at the chest of the wearer. But pix are fundamental to any conclusion here.

I've seen many a gorget with a mismatched chain, so this is not too unusual. The chain length, as Br. James pointed out, could have been shortened to accomodate someone whose stature would have the gorget sit too low if left at full length.
