Not German, would not know which country. Maybe someone else does know!

      Lanyard

German officer's adjutants wore a similar lanyard on their right shoulder, I believe. Regardless of origin, I imagine the function would be similar. It looks American-made to me, but that's just a guess.

Similar? In no way. The German adjutants had one wider aluminum braid (Geflecht - 38.0 cm long and 2.5 cm wide) and a long double cord (50.0 cm), which was knotted to the braid. At the shoulder-part two longer cords (12.0 cm) with metal tips were attached. The German material is totally different and be from Kantillenschnur.

All sorts of aiguillettes for the German army, state and political organizations are in my "Aiguillettes of the Third Reich", published at Bender in 2007 (640 pages). Take a look and compare!

          Aguilette

I only meant that they were similar in appearance and function. By "similar", I meant they were worn on the shoulder, were braided, and had the the 2 metal "fire-nozzle" fittings.
