"Erbhof" steel shield, still mounted on the wood backplate

My newest purchase, a very nice one, still mounted with the original screws on the wood!

    A lovely cultural item ...

Now that's a piece of history. I wonder why they only twisted the wire around only one of the "feet" to fix it to the wood? I'm guessing they added the wire for added strength, but I would have thought the attachment screws would have been enough. I'll bet this Erbhof has a story to tell.

I suppose it came from Kassel?

Yes. Came from Kassel. Uncleaned like found.
They used the wire because one of the 3 screws got lost over the years...

The wooden backplate was fixed at the house by 3 nails, you can still see the 3 holes.
