Hi Bryan,

Welcome among us! You have a very nice example of the First Issue SA Sport Badge, Silver Grade. This is an award example of the badge, hence the numbers on the reverse; each example was presented together with an award document which referred to this badge's number. There must have been master lists which linked each award number to an individual's name, maintained by the Office of the SA High Command, but no copies of such lists have yet been discovered to my knowledge. Un-numbered examples of each grade and issue of this badge also exist; such pieces were created for private purchase, which enabled an award-holder to keep his original badge with the award document while being able to wear the grade of badge he had won.
