Many don't want others to know what they possess if the value of their collection is high. I've heard more than once about someone showing expensive pieces only to be robbed at some point in time.

No one can be an expert about everything in this hobby, however some people are very knowledgeable about specific areas. It's fun to hear their opinions with their expertise. However, even they can be wrong once in awhile. There is always something to learn, Something to come to light. Unfortunately, we can't depend on someone saying "they got it direct from the family." It would be nice if we could, but like anything that is worth money, there are people who are unscrupulous and will say anything to make a profit. The fear that someone will call you a Neo-nazi is one reason not to show your items on this and other forums and the fear of it being copied and someone making fakes from it are also a big concern, but being afraid of a little negative critique is not. It just an excuse.
