What do you guys think about this one ? Details look correct from what I can see . I did a search and didnt see any with this finish ? Looks like 90% of them are silver wash . Thanks .

This is a good one. I call it the smooth back variant.
Sometimes would have the HB maker mark but not this one.

The tail is always skewed from this maker.

I have one just like this one, but its silver in color with smooth back, do they come in both finishes?

I cant tell what the base metal is, did he post measurements?. The birds good but he is not allowing enough info in his description to swing at this or not.

Hi Greg,

I have the other feather-back type in silver and gold wash.
Never seen this in dark bronze, but it is a good piece.

Looking at the base of the one in the above post and the first one shown, I think that it should be double stepped, hence the three holes and not a single step as shown. The eagle itself looks fine.

That is a bingo, the base is of the period and the bird is of the period. If its the small bird with the short wingspan the odds would have it on a stepped base.

The large bird which is less common can be found on the single tier base and will be approx 5 1/2 x 7. So the measurements that are not in the listing would be a clue to whether that base came with that bird. The additional hole in the base and the underside of the bird will add to the equation. I don't know that the bird was originally on that base.

You can also find bronze birds but not that common, the photos do not allow a good enough view and the lighting makes me wonder if this thing had a patina reapplied. I think it's topped out where it sits price wise until those questions are answered but the components appear correct

Thanks Mil for the info, these eagles are great to add to our collections, so many repos to look out for, I dont think theres any reference book out on these as of yet.

Saw a new range of repros here in the UK today at the fair. The dealer had tons out on show for £20 each and they were cold casted. From my observations, they were made of plaster and while most details were there, the parting lines did not match up. It would fool a novice; but still far off from real ones. Remember this one is in plaster.
