      Hi Ralph,

It appears to be a fine and early Army award from the mid-1930s. It's title is that of a "Company Shooting Prize," though I have insufficient experience with military nominclature to detect what detail is provided below the title. Hope this is helpful.

After a further look, the bottom line seems to be "October 7, 1938." The style of the soldier's helmet is earlier than that -- an updated M-1917 with Third Reich-era shields. This probably means that the prize award bust was created earlier and the inscription was applied later, as the awards were won. Just some thoughts...

          Hi Br. James

Thanks for your opinion and information, this is one of my favorite pieces, the stone base is beautiful, never seen one quite like this. Ralph

My pleasure, Ralph; it is quite a striking piece. I have a similar one...and there were MANY such pieces of various sizes produced, usually for prize awarding...though mine is missing its dedication plaque. I hope that those among us more familiar with military nomenclature will be able to add a word about that second line of the inscription. Cheers,
