    Coburg Badge on Baldes

    I wanted to start discussion concerning the Coburg badge listed on Baldes today. It appears to be a 2nd pattern without the RZM mark. I have read about a third pattern without the RZM mark. This third pattern is supposed to be thinner. Could this be the third pattern? A concern I have is the half roof on the building located in the top left of the badge. Is this a concern or a lack of my knowledge?

    It's sold but like you it's a variation thats not known and that would scare the hell out of me for that kind of cash. Other colleagues are better qualified to answer further.

      Yes, I just saw it a moment ago. From your comment, Jon, I shouldn't regret not being on time earlier this AM...? Care to add anything more about it being "a variation thats not known?" Like you, I'm certainly not qualified to say one way or the other.

      Baldes also had a nice large Deschler GPB this morning, though with a replaced pin mounting. Not a bad price, though it is an unattributed number, at least on my list.

        I have not seen the badge in question but only two types of the badge can be confirmed.

        1st pattern, thin needle pin

        2nd pattern, RZM marked and improved pin

        Personally I have no confidence in other types or versions of the badge until proven otherwise except for the silvered special honor badge.

              Thank you Matt.

              This is a 2nd pattern badge even though there is no RZM marking.

              There also seems to be damage to the top left castle turret.

                Whoever bought it and also thinks it might be a questionable example I would be happy to relieve him/her of their troubles.

                        No, this badge is a 2nd pattern. There is no 3rd pattern of the badge.

                        1st pattern awarded in 1932.

                        2nd pattern improved pin, 1936? Most have RZM marking but like in this case not all.
