    DJ Oberbann Sigrunes

Worn on the left upper arm directly below the district triangle badge, this badge was adapted as the official emblem of the DJ in 1933 and rendered in the Oberbann color of the unit to which the individual was attached.

In 1935, the pattern of the badge was standardized.

However, the Oberbann system was discontinued in April, 1936, and with it the assorted colored Sigrune sleeve badges.

The sleeve badge consisting of the Sigrune in white on the red disc continued to be worn to signify membership in the DJ.

(Or so it says on the internet).........

                  o-bann runes

Hundreds of these flooded the market in the early 70's. You couldn't walk thru a gun show (before there were militaria shows) without passing them

As I recall most of these were in new unissued condition as a result of a find in an old RZM retailer space, or so I've heard from collector lore anyway. Rumors also say the owner of the space made the finder remove the RZM paper tags and throw them away due to the swastika on them, and that is why we see most of them missing the paper tags. Of course these are all stories and rumors I have heard and if anyone has more detailed information it would be nice to see it posted here. One of the reasons I try to find uniform removed examples if possible.

                      rune lore

Don't know much about the origins of the insignia. I was working in a militaria shop in the 1970's and suddenly these started appearing in large numbers. don't recall any history, just that there were hundreds of them and no one wanted them. went for about 5$ a pop.
