    BDM sports shirt

This shrit recently came from the family of a U.S. veteran and is a part of his bring backs. I was wondering if anyone can please confirm a few things? I think this is a BDM sports shirt. It has a hand sewn HJ/BDM diamond in the center and has the owners last name "Baldur" hand stitched along the bottom edge. I was looking through period photos of BDM girls wearing the sports shirt and most look to be more of a "tank top" design. This shirt has a slight sleeve & I was wondering if it is a known variation. Any help would be most appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Rob

      Hi Fixbayonets,

The sports shirt insignia appears to be original from your photographs, so why not the shirt.
It must be the same today, mothers trying to save money; so they buy a less expensive "non-regulation" shirt to save a few pounds!
You could try a black light test, and if the shirt glows, in this case - a fake.
If it does not glow, I would presume the item is original; although several more experienced members on the forum could probably give more expert advice.

      Best wishes,

      John.

        Hi John,

Thanks for the reply! I believe that the shirt is original as it came from the family of the vet who brought it home & everything else he brought home was original (and the shirt passed the black light test). I was just wondering if it was a known variation or like you have stated a private purchase or non regulation shirt.

The shirt is not "BDM". The diamond may be authentic but the vest most certainly is not a regulation item. If home-made it is worth a fraction of the price of a regulation vest. No HJ collector would take this.
