Hessen-Nassau Medal

Can anybody shed definitive light on the rarity and purpose of this medal? I'm assuming that it's a "Gau Medal" of sorts issued to old fighters in Hessen-Nassau?

How weird. I've heard it described as "The Blood Order of Hessen-Nassau" but I don't believe that is accurate, as it has nothing to do with the Putsch. I don't think Tinnie would be accurate either, as they are not "commercial" pieces that could be purchased. More likely, a Gau Badge in medal form? I dunno. Would love to see some documentation on this medal.
