Help to identify SA(?) unit in portrait

This was a last-minute purchase at SOS just because the sheer size of it had an effect on me. Is it possible to ID the SA (I believe?) unit based on the 201 collar tab?

    Thanks!

Any ideas based on the number or piping style?

    Thanks in advance!

Wow. If Hitler and Himmler were able to have a child together, this would be him.

From the little uniform research I've done, it would suggest a 1930 pattern uniform, but the piping appears similar to the SS style?

I saw this picture at the SOS and almost purchased it myself. I have never seen one this large before. Really neat! The guy pictured is wearing an SA braunhemd after 1933 due to the use of a shoulderboard. The insignia would be from '33 to '39. He has a rank of Scharfuhrer (one pip) and he is on the staff of the 201st Standarte. I'm sorry but this one Standarte I don't have a location listed. Hope that helps out a little.

Very neat! I suspect his unit is part of SA Group Sachsen but I haven't found the city yet.

Thank you both for the input! Any information on the unit itself would be wonderful!

It was a last minute purchase as I walked out the door. If you were leaving the hall Saturday afternoon around 3, you probably saw me, arms full, carrying this back to the car - stopping every 15 ft to rest.

Nice portrait from this "Heinrich-Adolf"-person in the staff of Standarte 201.
I checked my available material, but can't find 201, but it is practically sure this must have been in the district of Westphalia (Westfalen). Also the numbers 202 and 203 were located there in about summer 1934. These numbers only have existed for a very short period of time. Maybe Laurens can jump in on his one! The color for the collar-patch may indicate wine-red.

In an official OSAF adress-list from November 1935 the numbers 201, 202 and 203 were no longer listed, but 201 returned in early war for Aussig in the Sudetenland, but was then a Reiterstandarte.

                      Hello Wilhelm,

Thank you very much for the information! Would it be safe to say then, that this likely narrows the period down to say 1934-fall 1935?

                        Hello,

maybe even shorter, as I think 201 was raised in later 1934 for the time being after the assassination of Röhm. The promotions for 202 and 203 which I have found were from about early November, 1934 and were from Westphalia (Westfalen).

But I have more and better information after I started some checking. Standarte 201 was mentioned in the "Verordnungsblatt der OSAF" from January 14, 1935 (in number 3, page 2). The name to it was Bad Berleburg, which is not far from Siegen. This city was located at the SA-group district Westphalia.
Further research has learned me that Bad Berleburg was listed in November 1935 as reserve-Standarte 130 and was assigned to brigade 68 (Arnsberg) from the SA-group of Westfalen (Westfalen). There existed also a Standarte 130, being Siegen (also brigade 68).

So the changing from 201 into reserve 130 must have taken place later as January 1935. This I do conclude from the fact that a Standarte 130 is mentioned in about May, 1935. It all is quite diffecult to explain. Reserve 130 ceased to exist between June 1936 and July 1937. So I would say the photograph might be dated between about November 1934 and about May 1935.

                        Hope this helps?

Thanks for the location information, Wim! I had speculated about Sachsen since a St. 101 was located there, and the practice of adding 100 to the number was sometimes done when making a new unit in the area. But Westfalen it is!

This is all wonderful information and I appreciate your assistance! Never thought I could nail down the timeframe to a 7~ month window!

It's also very appreciated to locate the unit in question. If anyone discovers any further information on the 201 Standarte during this era, please let me know!

For those with interest and to be accurate:
in 1935 it was written as Berleburg. Nowadays it is on the map as Bad Berleburg.
