When you have crumbs on the table cloth this has a brush normally with it, and would have an identical handle , and fits in the curve to store...or for when you eat cookies in bed, and need to clean up the crumbs....more likely for a formal table type situation...I call it a crumb caddy. (for dry stuff) A ... C note would be adequate, so try and dicker, but cant get hurt at that , but is missing the other boar bristle brush part.

That's exactly what it is used for 'crumbing down' as its called in the trade. From the German state railways, a formal 🍴 cart.

There's certainly more than $100 worth of silver in that piece!

Excuse me, but he did ask what is fair for the piece...Few german pieces are sterling , and is 8/10ts silver, except for the nazi markings, it is still an incomplete item , as it does not have the brush that was in the set when new. So I guess I could have said whatever you can get it for, is fair, and left it to the man who inquired and the seller whomever that is. He does need to mention it is missing the other brush part when trying to score the item, as finding that exact brush will be highly unlikely , closer to impossible, and lowers the items value as the brush will be curved as the caddy is shaped, and will have the same exact handle to make the item not only complete, but to be full value, if it did have all its original parts. In the case it was complete, and all parts were in the same condition , this may have brought as much as 4 or 500.00(US), but that is not what he asked, all things considered , no provenance as to where captured , etc. is how I came to my specific conclusion. When we buy, there are not always set prices, but what we are willing to pay, what they are willing to settle for, the completeness of the object(in this case not all there), and still it never is guarnteed that all negotiations will be successful. In my experience I am 85% successful on all my deals, and that is better than most statistics of most newbys , as education plays a part in buying , but ignorance on the sellers part also is many times detrimental to deals also, and I have found in many times as a buyer , even offering 100% of full value many times sellers having no experience with these type items will still think the item is worth many times more than the going rate. Nobody is 100% successful on every deal...we all lose deals when first hand buying , not in cases where the seller is a regular dealer, and has his price set as firm...in those cases you either pony up, or walk away till another day or forget the deal all together. This is why old timers will always prefer buying from younger collectors , as they can BS them with under evaluating the values, and the younger sellers take it in the wallet selling under the value and becoming the victim to the more experienced collector. Sometimes its better for newbys to have someone broker items for them than to sell them themselves ,and make more from the older morer experienced collectors , and still be able to pay the helper for handling the deal for them, instead of just falling into the trap , as there are NO friend in this hobby, everyone is out for themselves, and to think otherwise is to delude oneself into some fantasy world .sure there are folks who are friendly to one another till the show starts then they don'tnow you till they are done shoppin the show. I give true advice as I do not buy or sell here. I still say to do so is a conflict of interest. just because a man has many items he was able to score for nothing or little 40+ years ago, says nothing about how their ears will tweak back when some newby finds something they have searched for all their lives, they of course will always try as anyone will to get the item as low as possible , and still will want something for nothing thrown in ....I hope the newby are paying attention (are you listening All1knew) Down the road you will relaize to pay your bills with the things you hunt and find will leave you certainly with regrets unless you get top shelf prices for your items, and take no prisoners. There are too many buyers now days to worry about one who wants to low ball you who you throw your own profits away to others just for buying the item you should have gotten full price for. Buyers for good rare items are like busses, another one comes along every fifteen minutes....draw blood on every deal, or keep the items till the right buyer who appreciates paying full price comes along , and you can thank me later by paying me 1% for good advice I wish someone had given me many years ago , like i'm giving some reading this out there now. This does not relate to phony items sold by fakers and shylocks , but vet found first hand deals where there is quiality and rarity involved, and a track record regarding a real reputation with being able to be found if a refund due to an authentic guantee is ever needed.(not a fly by night newvby pushing crapola with a few posts)
