NSKK crash helmet emblem

Not a pattern I remember seeing. The last pattern had a much wider wing span. Here is the early type and I have seen some early ones with a horizontal swastika.

This looks like the rare size NSKK Hat Emblem for the special driving school that some one has doctored up with black paint and polish. Too bad on both counts.

it's not the typical helmet emblem that we know of, but I must say that I have a crash helmet with the same emblem and there's a book about visor's with another one of these showed in.

It's something I also would like to know something more of, interesting!!

It's all explained in volume 4 from "Headgear of Hitler's Germany". Pages 374 through 403 explain the crash helmet and its used eagles.
In June 1939 the second pattern eagle was introduced. The form is as shown in post 6 (on the right).
The eagle starting this thread is not the second form of eagle. That one always should have a black ribbon with lettering! If it is a variation
is not known!
The second form was worn appropriate at NSKK motos-sportschools.

Klaus, Your helmet has the same eagle that I posted awhile back. I always believed it came from a crash helmet. When you look at the reverse, the long pins and washer are the same one's used on the standard NSKK crash helmet insignia. Military posted a picture sometime back of an NSKK man wearing this type of eagle on his helmet. Sadly, that picture was removed for some reason. But looking at the one I have, I'm convinced there was a third pattern crash helmet eagle. Finally, one has been found on the helmet.

Books available and of course checked prior to posting. That´s why I wrote, that I only know 2 types of eagles.

Not a helmet, but a peaked cap. I'll post a photo of the eagle (original) tomorrow after my secretary takes a shot of my NSKK eagle collection.

There was not a third helmet NSKK-eagle (see below), but the version which was introduced in August 1939 for the Inspektion der Motorsportschulen des NSKK. It is a look-a-like of the one shown, but too me the wings seem to be to short. The wings for the inspection extend more from the ribbon.

It should be positioned onto a visored cap (Ron will have one) : the eagle and body part upon the upper front; the legs and oak leaf wreath with swastika upon the band! Letters nor the swastika should be black with this version.

The first pattern exists in variations and can have a static or a canted swastika! The static eagle was merely used with the Motor-SA.

The upper one is for the Inspektion der Motorsportschulen des NSKK, the motor-sportschools inspection (no black swastika); the second shown eagle was known as for NSKK-leaders "at the front" (NSKK-Führer im Fronteinsatz). This type of eagle was also in use during the war by persons from the inspection and leading personnel from motor-sports- and training-schools, as well as permanent personnel at the Reichsführerschule and the Technische Führerschule.

There was another eagle, a look-a-like to this eagle, which had extra feathers, just below the lower feathers and just above the oak-leaf wreath. As far as known this eagle was the second form: für im Kriegsdienst eingesetzte Führer. Only a few photographs do show thus type of eagle. Most seen wearing this eagle was the new NSKK-Korpsführer, Erwin Kraus. See volume 4 from the headgear-series, pp. 227 and 228.
