Mein Kampf - 2 copies 1 in English and 1 in German

    Gentlemen

Apologies if this is the wrong forum

I picked up these two volumes from a Vet's family yesterday.

The first in English is printed in 1942 and sold in aid of the Red Cross and the Jt John Fund (now called the St John's Ambulance Service). How bazar is that? And under the paper dust jacket is the party eagle.

Printed by Hurst and Blackett of London, New York and Melbourne

And here is what I think is a wedding gift from the Stadt Nordhorn to a lucky couple in 1940.
As you can see it is a nicely bound volume with a blue leather spine with gold block lettering and the Stadt crest embossed on the front. It is in a card sleeve so has been well preserved.

Nice eh! are these worth anything?

      And a couple more pics.

I think it is a wedding gift - can anyone make out the names and confirm this. It was picked up by an MP in April 45 according to a small inscription inside the front cover. Nordhorn is right on the Dutch German border.

The Bürgermeister of the "Stadt Nordhorn" from 1934 - 1945 was "Paul Gerhardt". I can identify the name also by his signature.

        Gerdan

The groom's name sounds Dutch, too.

The blue standard edition ~70 Euro, the wedding edition ~120 Euro.

Very nice pieces, JamesT! As an Officer of the Order of Saint John myself, I particularly appreciate seeing this most appropriate gesture in aid of the British war effort. Many thanks for sharing with us!

                Hi,

I believe the "St. John's" edition was published in the UK after the declaration of war to raise funds for this organisation.
It was published, I think - by a newspaper in about twenty weekly issues and buyers then bought the cover to bind them.
This was a sort of "know your enemy" propaganda strategy, charity received the profits
Hitler got on royalties for his (rubbish) book
I came across these magazine publications on an antique market stall (unbound) about two years ago, and could have bought them for £20! Unfortunately, there were two issues missing
Would have liked to have the complete set of issues - next time I see them though

                Best wishes,

                John.
