    SS Oberfuhrer; need help

    Hello to the Forum,

I have seen conflicting information regarding the relative ranking of an Oberfuhrer within the SS.

Was an Oberfuhrer the equivalent of a Colonel or was he equivalent to a Brigadier General? Or something else?

    Thanks,

Hi Harvey, I dont believe there was an eqivalent to an Oberfuhrer in the US or British armies

If I'm not mistaken, Oberführer was a higher paygrade than Standartenführer, both being Colonels though.

        cheers

          Oberführer

Oberführer = Brigadier or Brigadier General

According to Mark C Yergers...German Cross in Gold books

          and

Anatomy of an SS State by Helmut Krausnick, Martin Broszat, Hans-Adolf Jacobsen.

Harvey, I would go for the 3rd option. The rank insignias of 1943 with bars, oakleaves and pips had gold colour down to Brigadeführer and green from Oberführer to Unterscharführer.

            cheers
