Please help me identify these SA shoulder boards

    Hello all,

Can anyone further identify these boards for me other than for a SA-Sturmbannführer? What do the colors signify?

Not Sturmbannfuhrer. It was worn post 1938, by ranks SA Oberfuhrer thru SA Obergruppenfuhrer. The grey underlay signifies the SA specialty. In this case, "Foot-SA".

In regards to your question on color significance, the gold cord differentiates the boards from those worn by SA Sturmbannfuhrer thru SA Standartenfuhrer, which were either all silver or all gold, depending on the button color of the specific SA Gruppe it represented. After 1941, only silver was worn by these ranks. Your set of boards were worn from late 1938 on.

        Hello again,

While I appreciate the response, I am still a bit confused.

Because these are both gold and silver weaved boards that means they are for SA Oberfuhrer thru SA Obergruppenfuhrer?

Is there a chart out there or something that may help? Thank you very much for your help!

You are correct. Your shoulderboards (silver and gold) were worn between 1938 and 1945, by the highest 4 SA ranks except Stabschef. They were worn by: Oberfuhrer, Brigadefuhrer, Gruppenfuhrer, and Obergruppenfuhrer only. Sturmbannfuhrer, Obersturmbannfuhrer, and Standartenfuhrer are the 3 ranks below yours, and they wore the identical style shoulderboard, but all gold, or all silver, with the color of the wool underlay designating their specialty, same as all post 1938 SA shoulderboards (Both enlisted and officers). Hope that helps.

No problem. If you have any further questions, just ask. Always glad to help. Most of my information comes from Angolia's book, "Cloth Insignia of the NSDAP and SA". It has all the basic stuff you usually need.
