Can anyone identify this small wall eagle?

    Hello everyone,
I recently found this small sized nickel-plated bronze wall eagle. It is very heavy
for its size and seems very well made so I am thinking it is probably pre-war.
I have never seen this pattern of eagle before and was hoping someone else may have. Any comments would be much appreciated,
    Best Regards,
    Michael

It's silver washed and have seen similar pieces but not exact, what does that back look like?

      Hi Kris,
Here is a shot of the back which is also well detailed, It has two brass mounting posts attached to it- I'm thinking for a timber backdrop as we see on some blackened oak wall plaques, Do you think it is Army or Political?
      Best Regards,
      Michael

          Hi Michael,

Thanks for sharing this unusual piece with us! I've never seen anything like it before but I hope to read more about it here in the coming days. Since the back is completely (and beautifully) finished, it looks like it was intended to be seen from both sides -- otherwise why go to the trouble of all the detail on the reverse? I want to say that it looks more Political to me than Military, but I have no justification for that comment.

          Best of luck,

          Br. James

I have seen one like it before and the other one had the bolts torn away, not sure its a wall eagle though and do not know what it was used for to be honest. Could have gone on a plaque I would imagine but never saw the complete plaque. Its real though and that is always a plus.

              Best,

              Kris

Another great eagle Michael! Not sure where they would use these but its original IMO

As Br James has already said the weird thing is the back is'nt just a reversed image of the front or blank/plain as one would expect for a plaque: the back image is just as detailed as the front and you see the back of the wings and the tail just as well made as the front side: a hell of a lot of work for a side thats going to be hidden bolted to a piece of wood or marble. To me it looks as if this little (? whats the size) beauty was intended to be seen from both sides as if was bolted to/through glass (like a trophy or something as weird as a push/pull plate from a door on something like an embassy/government building door?)

But, as Ron and others have mentioned the size would be helpfull

                  Hello All,
Thank-you very much for your replies, I very much appreciate your comments. The size is about 5 x 8 Inches - almost exactly the same size as one of my old Luftwaffe wall plaques which also has two brass threaded posts. In fact I just dug out my old Lufty plaque and took the eagle off the wooden backing to have a look at the reverse. Jean-Claude and Br James are spot on- the reverse of the Lufty eagle is very plain and has no detail at all compared to the front (see photos).

I am now thinking that this could be from a wall plaque that may have also been used as a desk eagle if a bolt was attached to the base instead of the back- but I am just guessing as I have never seen a desk one like this and still have absolutely no idea where it would have been used,
                  Best Regards,
                  Michael
