Definately not the persons party number. The Gold badge wasnt awarded 300,000 times thats for sure. These Gold badges are very elusive,in that a bronze one can fool easily.MANY here have asked if a bronze badge was gold in the past.Im sorry friend but you have 2 VERY nice bronze badges, which is a good thing.

2 original bronce grades by E.Schneider and one silver grade by Lauer.
The "Matrikelnummer" is the continuously badge number after application at the Sportabzeichen Hauptstelle.
Please show me the back side of the N° 299562 badge
GG
p.S. The badge look only gold because it was polished and the ground material is tombac = brass alloyLast edited by GraveDigga; 03-17-2012, 10:03 AM.

Graeme, as said, the distinguishing the bronze from the gold is a common question and sooo many people are mistaken.
I don't know the details of how you purchased it but it may be a mistake on the part of the seller as rather than being ripped off.
They do look nice still... (and I know from experience kind words are just that, it doesn't change the facts).
keep your pecker up!
All the best,
Chris.

I collect this badges since a lot of years and every time i saw a numbered SA Sport badge on Internet, auction, on dealers platform, on fleemarket or in collections i have made a copy or a picture and have put down the data on my private statistics (number, manufacturer, grade) and I look on the Internet weekly several hours ask my wife
Over all this years now i have a statistics with several thousand badges.
I can almost exactly say which manufacturer which numbers series and which type has produced.
SA Sportabzeichen typ 1
N° 1 to ~ 75 000 Lauer produeced all grades ( exemption - the few hundreds SA Marine sportbadges, they was only made by E.Schneider - numbers under 1000 )
Gold grades from the outset up to the number ~ 7.000 ( the last number as original gold grade known to me is 6.840 )
Silver grades from the outset up to the number ~ 45.000 ( the last number as original silver grade known to me is 45.227 and in my collection )
Bronce grades from the outset up to the number ~ 75.000 ( the last number as original bronce grade by Lauer known to me is 74.672 )
The Lauer era was over
I think the requested numbers of pieces were so high in the meantime, that the manufacturer "Bonner Kunstabzeichenbedarf" had to help.
So I can say, between the N° 20.000 and 35.000 produced Bonner Kunstabzeichenbedarf in distances over and over again some thousand silver grades but only silver grades !!! no gold, no bronce !!!
the first number as original silver grade by Bonner Kunstabzeichenbedarf known to me is 20.110 and the last is 34.374
With number ~ 75.000 starts the Bonner Kunstabzeichenbedarf production (first exactly known number to me is 75.584) with only !!! bronce grades
The Bonner Kunstabzeichenbedarf era ends with number ~ 160.000 (last exactly known number to me is 159.882)
With number ~ 160.000 starts the E.Schneider production (first exactly known number to me is 161.422) also with only !!! bronce grades
With number ~ 233.000 (last exactly known number to me is 232.998) ends the SA Sportabzeichen typ 1 and the series of the sports badge type 2 "Eigentum der Sportabzeichen Hauptstelle" began (first exactly known number to me is 233.104)
There are a lot of special details more to tell but for now it will be too much - this you can read in my book (if I bring it, finally, sometimes to an end )

Unfortunately GraveDigga hasn't been on the forum the last couple of years. The above info was most informative. The following Sportabzeichen doesn't match the info above (only bronce Tpe I for Schneider), what do you guys think of the badge below? Thanks
With number ~ 160.000 starts the E.Schneider production (first exactly known number to me is 161.422) also with only !!! bronce grades
