I've not seen this design before and I couldn't find anything like it in the books by Jim Yannes on Third Reich cutlery. I wonder if the wording on the reverse -- maker mark or whatever -- might be of some help to anyone here?

It matches his known dinnerware that was authenticated by KPM and bears the same logo which is a one looker really. Not common to see and much of it came out in the last 5 years. I think you can find the dinnerware at HH Auction # 60 or 61.

I tend to leave things be, but I guess your cant hurt it by cleaning with a non abrasive material. Some opinions may differ on this.

from the table service of the Reich Foreign Ministry. White glazed porcelain with gold borders. At the base of each a sceptre mark in blue underglaze, and in overglaze green a imperial orb and the black national eagle and globe of the Reich Foreign Ministry. The set consists of two large serving platters, diameter each 35.8 cm, six dessert plates, diameter each 20.8 cm, and four cake plates, diameter each 17.5 cm.

Be careful is you clean it. Make sure it is not plated first. The plating can come off with certain cleaners. Since it is such a high end piece I am assuming it is not plated. I would just use dish soap and warm water at first and see what you come up with. Oh yeah....excellent find.

Thank you for showing it. The first I've seen. I felt compelled to answer in regards of the cleaning. If you do it make sure you do it right. Also always keep any kind of silver away from sulfur and that includes eggs, dishes with egg in them, simple rubber bands or rubber products.

Here is a tip to clean silver without any chemicals.

If they are spotted, put a layer of aluminum foil in the sink. Mix up some boiling hot water and vinegar essence (Essig). Lay the silver on the aluminum foil in one layer and make sure that they are covered with the mixture.

Spotted blades on knifes can be dipped in vinegar essence. Then you take some wet charcoal from the fireplace and stroke it on and wipe clean with a chamois leather.

If you just want to make them shine replace the boiling hot water and vinegar essence and use hot water and a few tablespoons of sodium bicarbonate. You can use one of those aluminum boxes you use to freeze food in instead of a sink if you want.

Also, if you keep them in a drawer, try putting a few chestnuts in it with them. The silver will oxidize slower and remain shiny longer.

Wonderful information here, including the suggestion on cleaning silver provided by Minnesinger. But since you've just mentioned that this piece is silver-plated, I must agree with adlerfan53 and encourage you not to try and polish or clean it. Silver plating is very thin and once it becomes loose and flaked it can never be replaced; then you are left with a piece which displays cracks and the color of the base metal showing through, and all of the original beauty of the piece is gone forever.
