    Booklet "Ich Kaempfe"

    Hello,

I just got this booklet, it was printed in 1943.
Was this booklet handed out to each and every NSDAP member?

            Thanks Gerdan,

do you know if each and every member of the NSDAP got one of these booklets?

            Thanks

              Hi Alex,

Yes, I believe "Ich Kämpfe" was provided to every new member of the NSDAP, though I don't know how many annual publishings the booklet went through. My copy was published by Franz Eher, the Central Publisher of the NSDAP, in 1944. Perhaps some of our colleagues here might be able to provide a history and time-line to this now-rare publication?

                Hello Br.James,

thank you very much for this information.
Your book was published one year after the one I have.

I believe this book was produced for Army commanders at the front.I remember
reading during a Fuhrer conference with his Generals that Hitler discusses this
                  booklet and its purpose.

I will try and hunt out my "fuhrer conference" book to find what exactly Hitler
said about this book Ich Kampfe.

Thank you, Andy -- that would be quite interesting! Since "Ich Kämpfe" recounted the history of National Socialism as a political party and a social movement, I find it difficult to believe that this booklet would have been "produced for Army commanders at the front," though I suppose Hitler could have used it as an educational tool in an effort to bring some understanding of the nature of the NSDAP to the officer corps. I look forward to hearing more!

When i get home i will check the book.As i said AH talks about this book in
one of his conferences. So it will be from the horses mouth, not hearsay.

I clearly remember something about giving it to unit commanders to encourage them
to fight for the nazis. As we know Hitler was skyptical of the Army officer core.

The book was published in 1943 and given to all those who joined the Party in that year.
There is a facsimile edition of it by Ray Cowdery whch has both German and English translation.

Thanks Wessel, and a quick visit to Ray Cowdery's website -- USM, Inc. -- will provide information on the special 1943 edition of "Ich Kämpfe" that you described, including an English translation of the 10th anniversary issue of this publication, containing 100 pages of material just as you described it. As I said previously, I would like to hear from anyone who has collected a number of issues of this booklet as to when it was first published and whether it was revised year by year or remained constant in content. And of course, if Desio is able to locate a quote from Hitler as to his encouraging the military leadership to read this booklet, that would be fine background information for anyone holding one or more copies of "Ich Kämpfe."

Ive just checked my book and the Military conference at the Wolfschance Jan 7 1944 attended by AH,Reichsleiter Bormann,FM Keitel,LT General Schmundt, and they do as i remember discuss a book for front line commanders but clearly my memory mixed up the title as the book was titled
                              "What are we fighting for"
