Maybe Erich can help on this issue - I have the same helmet, and it doesn't have a top crown, and it doesn't look like one was ever there. There are two holes in the crown, however, that may have been for pins for a crown pad. Did some of these early models NOT have a crown pad?

Agree with Erich. Very nice. The eagles breast feathers lead me to think that Assmann is the insignia maker.
