    SA Helmet for Sachsen Gruppe

I saw this SA Helmet for Sachsen Gruppe posted on a well known dealer's website. Was it commonplace for SA units to paint their helmets? Does anyone have photographs showing such helmets being worn. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I've seen early SA members wearing various WWI helmets--they look light or medium brown inasmuch as can be determined from a black and white photo--some have a white swastika, some a dark swastika; some have no insignia. I can't recall seeing an SA helmet with a 2 color shield but in the early days it wouldn't be so odd to see.

The main problem with these helmets is that unless there is a direct and reliable line to the original wearer or the vet who brought it back, it's impossible to know without a doubt when it was painted or by whom.
