    dipper from SS Kaserne Obersalzberg

    Hi,

I want to show my new purchase, is this stamp known on other Cutlery? Comes from the SS Kaserne in Obersalzberg. Stamp says "SS v.Obersalzberg"

    The quality is very nice.

    Cheers

    Dear Udo,

A very nice piece. Sorry to say I haven't seen that mark previously. I've checked the two books on TR cutlery by Jim Yannes and he doesn't show an example, either. The way the ladle's handle attaches to the bowl looks familiar, as does the handle's design, though I can't remember now where I've seen those attributes before. And that may have nothing to do with the mark of the SS barracks at the Obersalzberg Administration.

      Could mean Stainless Steel...

"WMF" is the maker mark, and "Cromargan" declares the used material. In this case it is a stainless steel, which used WMF in this period only for canteen items. Private cutlery was mostly made in plated silver.

This is in fact independant from the Obersalzberg mark, which was added by WMF for the contract, the SS administration from the Obersalzberg casern ordered the cutlery for their canteen.

I cannot see the SS mark very well - but I have no doubt that it is an original piece.

              Nice score.

                Nice score.

I did not show the mm in detail to prevent it from being good faked.
