    photo HJ with SS insignia?

    Hi,

what insignia are these boys wearing? The left one has a SS eagle on the hat, or am I wrong? He has a title on left cuff, and on the first view I thought, he wears a "Maria Theresia" tab, but it looks different.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

I can't judge about the cap eagle but it is'nt the normal political eagle most seen on these caps.

The edelweiss is just a metal insigna edelweiss, you also see those on SA uniforms, It has something to do with a (mountain?) area I thought.

And also the HJ did wear cufftitles.

That doesnt look like a medal edelweiss,it looks like a tab to Maria Theresa SS divison, both are tuned differently, and teh eagle looks SS also, very strange.I guess they just souped up their uniforms? Anyhow regions with edelweiss are around Hochland area in the mountains,a tradition to wear the flower that grows there.

Could you explain me why it looks like a tab?

No why do you think that?

They wear all kind of cufftitles like these :

              http://www.germanmilitaria.com/Polit...s/N032961.html

The ''Hitler Jugend'' cufftitles are normaly only seen on SS jackets.

This photo appears to be DJ Leaders from the Obergebiet Südost or Austrian HJ (ostmärkische HJ).

Here is some information shared by Wim Saris on another forum regarding the HJ wearing of Edelweiss insignia.

In the Amtliches Nachrichtenblatt for the HY-organization a special issue was pulblished (Sonderdruck 7/38) from September 30, 1938 about the service-dress for HJ and DJ.

                From page 4:

Hochland does wear with all cap-forms the Edelweiss. It should be positioned in the middle for the left side of the cap, close to the lowest edge. Leaders are NOT authorized to wear the Edelweiss.

In the above mentioned periodical from June 16, 1939, so more then six months later, finally the announcement was published (page 219, text practically literally translated):

The Edelweiss-insignia for the Obergebiet Südost has to be worn immediately from now on with the shirt, the blouse and winterblouse, as also with all forms of clothings for the leaders and the highest leaders (Führerkorps) with the exception of the leaders greatcoat with black cuffs.
It has to be worn at the right lapel of the tunic or respectively the collar for the shirt in such way that the stem for the insignia has to point into the outer tip of the collar.

So stem always has to point down. The form used was the form as authorized for traditions to the SA and NSKK (and also specific Police units).
It does NOT ever have a swastika!

The cap with the eagle appears to be a DJ leaders cap to me. In the photo shown at the begining of the thread the Edelweiss does not appear to be an SS collar tab to me. Many different cuff titles were used by the HJ and I cannot read what that title says from the photo shown. I've seen many HJ insignia oddities and anomalies but I would be very surprised to see SS collar tabs of any type on an HJ uniform.

Here is a clear photo of the Edelweiss in wear by an HJ member. Also a link to a thread by Bob Coleman showing a DJ Leaders Kepi with an eagle similar to the one shown in the photo is here.

Interesting text! I'll post a photo of my HJ wintercap with Hochland edelweiss later.

p.s. Wim is the man with regulations!

Here are some photos of the DJ Leaders Kepi currently offered at Grenadier. I don't know headgear well enough to comment on it, but it shows the cap in good detail.

Cap eagle on the hat in the photo in post #1 strikes me as an Army pattern eagle.

                            I'm doubing about this cap..
Why does it have a double stitching under the visor? And not on the top?
The buckle has been often seen on ebay caps that most collectors give a stamp with ''postwar'' on it.
Maybe that would explain the double stitching to more look like a RZM type?

                            I don't call it a faker but also not a 100% IMO.
